Public Relations - Week 2 Assignment

PR Professional Interview Transcript

What is your name and current position?
My name is Laura Monday I am an Online Inventory Assistant at Scripps Networks Interactive.
What are your responsibilities and how do these responsibilities integrate with marketing and business objectives?
My main goal is to organize sales teams’ pitches and sold deals for advertisers that are interested in our online ad spots. I work directly with sales in order to look over their contracts to ensure that they are promising advertisers/agencies the correct numbers and dollars that they should have. When problems arise, it’s my job to find an alternate plan that works with both sales and their clients. We have a lot of competition in terms of advertisers who are fighting for one specific placement as well as keeping out advertisers within the same industry from running on the same pages.
What methods of communications does the organization use to reach their publics?
Our company is a multi-media company so we use all outlets of communication in order to reach out public including television, digital, mobile and publishing.
What are some examples of communications strategies you have used to achieve success?
We try to do our best to stay up to date on all technology and push forward to create our own ways of communication. Through television shows and online exchanges, our company keeps communication open between the public (our consumers) and ourselves. It’s our consumers that keep the brand alive and we acknowledge that.
How has your public relations practice affected your organization’s reputation?
Our company doesn’t stop when difficult tasks come forward and we do not get comfortable or set in our ways. We are always working to be better and we are quite proactive about our practices.
Mrs. Monday was kind enough to let me conduct my interview on her. I actually reached out to Scripps Networks Interactive PR department but was recommended to interview Mrs. Monday. I enjoyed interviewing her she's just starting out in her profession but hopes to hired on in Scripps Network interactive PR department.

NBA green lights new arena advertising

courtesy ancsports.com

With NBA fans and players voicing their dislike for the NBA’s new proposal to place advertisements on player jerseys the league has just approved on court and atop the backboards advertising. League officials are expecting this new revenue stream generates six figure deals or two million annually. This new revenue stream in return will help franchises with poor fan bases make up for the fans missing in the seats.

The arena advertisements will be placed in front of team benches and atop backboards to ensure camera visibility. It is expected that all floor advertising will be by way of decals. In the past the league had forbidden its franchise from displaying corporate partnership advertisements and instead elected to place team branding in those areas.

The NBA has stated however that the new advertisement areas are to be sold to local partners of said franchise’s community rather than corporate partners. If in deed any franchises sold that advertisement space to corporate partners it is to be moved before any and all national televised games. In the past the league has held last on what advertising signage would be displayed for all national televised games.

NBA officials have stated that multiyear deals can be signed by franchise’s and its local or corporate partners. But all deals will be subject to evaluation at the conclusion of the upcoming 2013 – 2014 season. The message was stated in case the league wants to make changes or should the new sales inventory fail to catch on amongst fans and consumers.
